What is Coronavirus?

Coronavirus is a highly contagious virus that can cause serious health problems and potential death. (COVID-19 is the disease that can occur as a result of this new coronavirus infection.) Because the virus is so new, much is still being learned. None of us have innate immunity.

How Does the Virus Spread?

The 2 primary ways that coronavirus is spread are when the respiratory droplets of an infected person are A) breathed into the lungs and/or B) the droplets enter through the mucus pores of the nose, mouth, or eyes of others. (All of us emit these types of respiratory droplets every time we cough, sneeze, laugh, sing, talk or even simply breathe. In 'normal' times, however, these droplets are largely harmless.)

How can I protect myself from COVID-19? (Plan to stay safe.)

The best way is to avoid getting sick (and possibly spreading the illness to others) is to avoid being exposed to the virus!

Early indications suggest that the higher the virus 'load' a person is exposed to, the greater their odds of becoming infected and the worse the outcome.

Each provides unique and important benefits. So, the more of the rules and measures you practice, the lower the risk of infecting yourself or others:

• avoid touching your face
• keep your hands clean
• be especially mindful of often-touched surfaces when in public (such as door handles, shopping cart handles, restroom fixtures, etc.) and sanitize frequently-touched surfaces in your car and home (steering wheel, wallet or purse, keys, doorknobs, phone, etc.)
• cover your coughs and sneezes
• wear a face mask
• improve indoor ventilation (airflow) and filtration
• accept the COVID vaccination when it's offered to you
